holy cooler!

Just stopped in the middle of session cos was on fbt (full blown tilt). Dropped like 5 buyins at $50nl on party, so tilted by playing $100NL out of my roll. Hit two coolers including this sweet one: http://www.pokerhand.org/?1845171

Total downswing has now reached roughly $500, almost entirely on party, so my roll there needs some tlc.

Sigh.

Holy upswing batman!

Still playing good and running good, and now have >$1k on my three online sites :).

Bankroll:

Party: $1023.39

Stars: $1057.65

Total: $3211.49

Graph with asymptote: :):):)
Clearly running quite well at the end there! It includes this hand:

Good turn card for me :)

Back in southampton now, finished the Omaha hi/lo part of Ray Zee's book on the train, so i'm now expert, lol. I'm knackered so i will to bed.

Good luck to Ryan Daut in the $15k main event at the 5 diamond. 2nd in chips with 10 left last i checked. He won the PCA in january when i played, and is possibly the best blogger in history. Nearly

Soooooooo close to $3k now. Observe:

Stars: $1005.15
FTP: $932.30
Party: $1023.39
Total: $2960.84

Here's the graph of all my Hold 'em hands over these 3 sites on my current database:

You'll notice this is only 9k hands. Which means i should play a LOT more. Playing full time i could get through 20k hands in a week.

Sadly i can't figure out how to use pokergrapher to graph my omaha database. Will look into it.

Going home to Southampton land tomorrow. Ideally before going back to uni, i'll get that $3k up to $7k, and withdraw $1k for living expenses/random spending etc. This is unlikely to happen, but it'd be nice :)

Deadlines etc

This week instead of going home like most, i have stayed at uni, due to one last deadline. Being a chronic procrastinator, this has led to one thing: procrastination. And for me, procrastination largely means playing poker. Although i have kept it to short sessions ("I won't play for long, I've got work to do"). Still, it's been going well, and i reckon when i get home i'll take some shots at $100NL. Although I may decide to bosh out 25k hands at $50 instead. We'll see. It'd be good to be back at $100NL though, cos $50NL is rigged ldo.

Bonus FTP graph this month (contains rungoot and lol-samplesizeaments):
Bankroll:
Stars: $1005.15
FTP: $890.00
Party: $855.52
Total: $2750.67

Also, been playing some min-bet Omaha hi/lo (lol poo-flinging?). Nice to have some variation from Hold 'em. Been reading Ray Zee's book on hi-lo split poker, and so far it seems excellent. I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn/get better at Omaha hi/lo or Stud hi/lo.

Weeeeeeee

Woke up this morning and decided on a whim to play one of the $12/180 person turbo SnGs on stars. I took it down obv. Ship the $594! Screenshot:This was an important win for me, as i hardly play MTTs anymore, so was reaffirming to know I still have a clue what i'm doing :)

I withdrew $300 from this win, but my bankroll is still looking quite healthy.

The last few days i've played 1k hands of omaha along with usual NLHE and made $200. I reckon my winrate at $50PLO long term is greater than $50NLHE, just cos they really don't know how to play, whereas even the worst NL players know what constitutes a decent starting hand.

Anyway, with that win and cash games recently (been breaking even at NLHE last couple k hands) my bankroll is looking pretty good.

Stars: $1029.00
FTP: $747.15
Party: $808.40
Total: $2584.55

Will be looking to have >1k in each account by the new year, ready to take shots at 100NL. :) Hopefully be able to withdraw some too, to help with living expenses etc next term at uni!

lol-unexpected-blogaments

So much for my new found focus. Sigh. Haven't been playing much so haven't had anything to blog about. I imagine i'll post a lot more now it's xmas hols, and i'll actually be playing and have something to blog about. In the mean time, here's my last 2k hands in graph form just to placate some of you:

mini-swong

Just a quick post. Dropped a couple of hundo earlier this week due to bad/marginal/tilty play, and realised i was losing focus when playing. So i slapped myself a bit, and have been playing really well the last few days, although still stacked off unnecessarily once. Total roll is on about $2.1k now. With my new found focus, i'm determined to double my roll in the next month or so and get back to the $100NL games while overrolled! Also want to play a lot more on stars with the aim being to get myself a wii with fpps before xmas :). I have 9k at the moment and need 24k for the wii. I didn't play as much as usual last month, so i'm back down to silverstar vip, which will hinder my progress. It was fun over summer playing a fair bit and being a platinum star, cos i just seemed to get a ridiculous amount of FPPs. Also, I am no longer on course to make supernova by the end of the year, which is a shame. Oh well, I imagine i'll manage it next year.

lol prop-bet-aments

Apparently some people actually read this, so i'm gonna try and update it more often.

So, as some as you may know, Rupert, a balla from pokersoc and I have a £200 year long prop bet on who can come higher in the "warwick poker player of the year" leaderboard. So far neither of us have any POTY points, so we both run good obv. Unlike previous years at poker soc, for the most part i've been playing quite well, but the last THREE weeks I have made the last two tables yet still don't have a final table appearance :( Could really have used at least one final table appearance so i can take a lead in this prop bet. Tonight lost half my chips with AJ vs AT all in pre with 10 left. Would've put me on about 50k ~ 1/6th of the chips in play with 10 left. The AT made a very questionable call imo considering the action and the fact they still had plenty of chips left to wait for a better spot. Next hand I shoved like 14k at 1k/2k blinds UTG 5 handed with K7s and was out. Been thinking about that shove a bit, but i can't play it any differently, considering we're just 5 handed, I have an M of <5, the players at the table are pretty nitty, only 2 more until final table, and the big blind this hand is good/tight and has enough chips to want to avoid marginal spots. Sadly he had AJs, and it was an easy call :(. Pretty happy with my play in general, only think of one hand i definitely misplayed which cost me 4k. With those chips i don't shove with K7s, and i obv win the tournament. Lol chaos theory.

On the plus side, with all these last two table appearances, i am racking up the £££££s in my last longer bets with Rupert :). AND i won a coinflip in the tourny tonight! Which NEVER happens!

Didn't play much online over the weekend as i was working, and when i did play i generally spewed. But my discipline is improving, as whenever i saw myself do something spewy i managed to stop myself from carrying on playing. Still made $75 though, sweet.

Here's my bankroll atm:

FTP: $833.45
Party: $838.23
Stars: $460.06
RB due: $39.03
Total: $2170.77

Will post graph etc some other time. The hand i lost most on over the weekend was playing HU vs an weak passive station. He limped and i checked and the flop came AQJ. I decided i was going to win the pot, even though i knew it would take multiple bets to get him to fold. So i bet pot, he called. Turn was a T. I bet pot again. This might seem like spew, but he'd been overplaying when he had the nuts/close to it in general, so figure he'll shove a king here. So when he called (didn't raise) I thought i could shove (bit over pot by now i think) the river and get a fold from his entire range. Of course, he called and showed QQ. Obv put me on tilt, so i left.

Right, bed time,see ya.

TGIF

Since the last post i haven't played that much as i had a big assignment in today.

A couple of days ago i played a friend of mine heads up on full tilt for a bit. On paper he has a slight edge on me, as he has crushed MSNL on various sites the last few months, but during the game, i don't think i could say who had an edge. Misplayed a couple of hands against him, but came away +$50 which was good. In fact, it's mostly his influence that i am now operating really smart bankroll management, as i think that is the main thing that separates us (I used to randomly spew too, but seem to have stopped that), and thought it was unfair he was making all this money that i could easily be making too :).

But then i lost all that profit at various heads up razz tables on full tilt! Hmph. I made a bunch of money at $2/$4 and $3/$6, then saw some guy who i'm sure i have an edge against playing $5/$10, so i sat. He ran so good it was unreal. One of the biggest pots he won off me saw him 3-bet 5th street with 489 up when i had [6][2]A4A (the cards in [] were my down cards). Even if he has A2, my draw to a 6 is a favourite over his made 9/8 draw, and this best case scenario is unlikely as i have 2 aces and a deuce. So i capped. All the money went in and he showed J8 in the hole (so he had a pair of 8s and a DRAW to a jack low). I don't know if he saw my board had paired and thought "zOMG, raise raise raise!" or what. But i was >80% to win that pot. Obviously i hit QQ and he makes his jack low and gets a big pot shipped his way. We played about 4 big pots that went down like that. Considering how "easy" Razz is, there sure are a lot of players who make a lot of mistakes playing it.

NL cash has been going well, as you can see on the graph later.

Been trying some of the APPT step tournys on stars. I'm like -$60 or something in the step ones now, with no entries to step 2. Running bad and cold in them. A2 vs 22 on A2K flop for eg.

My current bankroll:

FTP: $842.25
Party: $784.74
Stars: $429.42
RB due: $39.03
Total: $2095.44

(I'm over $2k again, weeeeeeeeeeee)

This bankroll nit thing is going well, i'm still playing $50nl and now have 42 buy ins :). Will move up when i have at least $1k on each site.

Below is my graph since starting updating this blog again. This graph is a little misleading as it includes $50 from chip dumping and doesn't include the $50 i lost at Razz a couple of nights ago.

I don't think i'll get much done over the weekend, as i have a sizeable assignment in for tueday that i don't have a clue about yet! :S

Bonus hands:

lol, i run good.

expert call by villain

used mad reads/history to know that villain was weak, but on this flop would prob call a c-bet. So i check, looking for pot control/free card with the backup plan being to c-r the **** out of him! I think this villain has pretty much exactly {22-44, 66-88} here, so it's nearly impossible for them to call the cr, and if they do i have a bunch of outs. Obv i just got pwned by deuces instead.

Til next time.

Tuesday 30 October 2007

zOMG! an update!!!!

just a quick one though, posting cos i don't want to go to bed, lol.

what's happening with me?

At the end of summer, i withdrew most of my poker monies (again) for various reasons that made sense at the time. I left myself with something like $700 spread out across party/stars/full tilt. I have not been able to play much this term, as i have actually been doing uni work!

However, when i have been playing, i have been doing well, and this is my current totals across the 3 sites:

FTP: $807.50
Party: $712.11
Stars: $306.62
RB due: $36.27
Total: $1862.50

The stars total is a little low, as i've recently has to pay a few people through it. Being a bankroll nit now, this week i've been trying to rebuild on stars at $25NL, but after 1000 hands of -3.57bb/100 poker, i thought "Fuck it." and moved up and boomswitched, as you can see on the graph for this week below:

A couple of the big pots were me 3-betting ai on the flop in a "bullshit do you have anything!" manner, and sucking out. I made sure i'd have 6 outs if i was wrong though! lol.

Anyway, my long term goals are to try to get to $2k on each site by the end of the year, and by the end of the academic year, i'd like to have $10k+ on each site so i have enough to try going pro for a while! Obviously i've still got a lot to learn, and a lot of hands at SSNL before i can get there, and a job may well be a better option, but i can see me being back at uni next year anyway, and i don't want a proper job yet! I really want to prove to myself that this would genuinally be an option for me, if i wanted it.

Losing Day!

Fairly uneventful day, and just one of those typical days when nothing quite goes right. Set over set as below (where he hit his two outer on the river), and just things like having my c-bets called in 3-bet pots where i couldn't continue, never hitting a flop, etc etc etc. Oh well, i still only lost just over a buy in today, and i knew i was due one :). There was an annoying hand where i check called flop and turn with top pair, and hit running cards to get a flush. I bet out on the river as i didn't want him to check behind with a lot of hands that would call a bet. He just called and lost with the nut straight. If i'd checked, he'd have certainly bet, i could've gone all in and he would've certainly called as my hand was so disguised. Oh well. I have also deposited some money on full tilt, this will not contribute to my challenge, but i may post updates from there, as i am attempting a similar spin up from a mere $400 deposit.

Running Good (will it ever end?)

Today i cost myself an $80 pot with marginal/bad play. Basically, i called on the turn in a big pot to give villain a chance to bluff a missed flush draw on the river. Unfortunately, the river put 4 to a flush on the board and i felt i had to fold. I think given the size of the pot i should've shoved at that point. Apart from that things continued to go well for me :) Played 500 hands of $100NL and won nearly two buyins. Only a couple more and i can think about attacking $200NL.

Doomswitch coming

Played 500 hands of $100NL today, and ran good again (>14ptbb/100). This constant running good is making me nervous of the upcoming doomswitch. Please just do it to me now and get it over with. I hate this calm before the storm. Lol. Clearly going to doomswitch at MSNL. Urgh

Things looking good

Only played about 500 hands today, and was able to move up to $100NL after 100 of these after continuing to run well at $50NL. Ran really well during my 400 hands at $100NL and made close to 3 buy ins.

I'm enjoying running this good, but it's not going to be sustainable :( Variance can be so cruel and misleading. Just hoping i don't get doomswitched, i'll settle for a lot of slightly below average luck as a way to balance this out instead please.

Running like god.

Ran real good at the end of the day, after thinking for a while i was going to have a losing/breakeven day. Couldn't quite run well enough to leave $50NL behind though. Just $17 shy of $100NL! Got in 1k hands too, which is good. Looking at my stats, i'd like to be more aggressive on the flop/turn. However, these numbers might be skewed because there's more player per flop, calling stations etc etc etc. We'll see

Todays big hands:

Put in 503 hands today, all at $50NL, and ran hot, 32.50ptbb/100. This is good, as ideally i don't want to be at $50NL for very long, as the money isn't good and it's easily the most rigged level.

I didn't mention previously what my attempt at bankroll management during this challenge will be. $400 = 8 buy ins at $50NL, and i will move up whenever i have 8 buy ins for the next level up, until i get to $400NL (i might take shots at $600NL/$1000NL if feeling frisky), which is the level i'd like to beat consistently for the next academic year (while building a roll to play higher once i've finished uni!). I have played there before, and it's a really good level, because it's still perfectly beatable (although there are some TOUGH players) and the money is very good. I will move back down if i drop 3 buy ins at a level and grind back up.

new quest

In order to motivate myself/give myself something to aim for, i have decided to set myself the following task:

Before the year is up i will aim to spin $400 into $15k in 50k hands.

50k in the rest of the year is not a big ask, but i'll be back at uni in a couple of weeks, so i won't be able to play as much, and this sort of target shouldn't eat into my studying time.

I have withdrawn all the rest of the money from my account already so i can start this.

$15k is probably a bit optimistic, but i want to set myself something challenging, so i really try to play my best whenever i play. Also, once this challenge is complete, i will probably end up withdrawing most of my winnings to pay for tuition fees/accommodation/unnecessary balla stuff.

Also, ideally i want to play enough each month to maintain my platinum star status on pokerstars.

Hopefully will have my first update later tonight (with graphs!).

Amazed i had a +ve day

Played 1k hand on each site today, and was running HORRIBLY to start with on both sites. Quickly dropped 3 buy ins on party, including set over set and top pair top kicker < flush draw. Also managed to have a buy in whittled away from me on stars.

Managed to claw my way back on party, and was even about +$150 for the day, then got involved in a 4 way all in pot on the flop with the nut flush draw against 3 sets. Obviously i didn't hit. If i had hit though, i would've probably finished today about +$400 on party. Then in the last few minutes, due to tiredness/tilt i've cost myself another buy in on party.

Stars went through a period of being amazing, and i was on course for a big win on there. Then some guy made a "brave" call on me for his whole stack with second pair third kicker after i'd reraised pre and bet big on two streets. Hmmm.

Also played two 6-max donkaments on stars. Was playing really well in both, but then in the $11, had AA<65 on a 678 flop. The $22 was a deepstack, so that was especially frustrating when 3 hours in, someone check raised me all in on a Jxx flop with AK. I had AJ and snap called. Didn't waste anytime in turning a King. GG, nh, well played sir.

Return from...?

Right, I have finished messing around with life, and am ready to take poker seriously again. My bankroll took a bit of a beating after a couple of failed investments and my decision to pay $215 to enter an EPT DS, which tilted me for a good week. 5 left, KJ < QQ on a KJxx board for the chip lead. Hit his two outer obviously...

Anyway, I have moved some money to party, as it's quite nice to have a break from a site sometimes, especially one as rigged as pokerstars.

I will be playing $0.50/$1 on both sites unless i lose a couple of buy ins, at which point i will grind $50NL again.

my current status:

Party: $515.91
Stars: $503.89
Total: $1019.80

Might play a quick session now before bed actually. Gl me.

Also just finished attempting a crazy spin up, that you can read about here:

Wednesday 11 July 2007

Robusto again.

The last two days have been horrible, and i have experienced one of my worst downswings ever. My pokerdb crashed last night, so i can't give you exact hands, but some highlights included: KK no good against AJ on a Jxx flop. AA vs KQ on a Qxx flop and AA vsAK all in preflop. That last one stung. Also lost a full buy in with 22 against AK when the money went in on the turn, and AK, no hand no draw hit an ace. Normally wouldn't play 22 so aggro there, but it was so obvious he had AK and i went for full value :)

I regrouped though, and today went well. 2.5k hands at $100NL, running at 13ptbb/100. My aim is to play 20k hands this week, but this almost certainly won't happen as i have my graduation on monday. Shame.

As my poker db crashed, i can't give you the exact amount of my downswing, but it's not as bad as the figures below show, as i played 2 or 3 $60 turbo tournys which i busted out of the money in, so that was a chunk of change. I am not playing any more tournys until i am seriously robusto! lol.

This downswing has set me back about 4 days, but i'm back on course now.

Will post pokertracker stuff/graph in a couple of days time. But here are the biggest hands of today:

It was SOOOOTED!!!!

I don't know how to get away from this

KK vs AA standard cooler. Sigh

But it was SOOOOOTED!!!!!!!111one111!!!! take 2

Aces were good to me today

Sigh, chop chop. No, wait, I have you beat?!

Actually got action with quads!

How to get most monies in drawing dead

Today:
Cash: +$656.70
Bankroll: $1574.99

Looking forward to a +$1k day soon judging by these results :) Although will prob have to wait until $200NL.

Monday 9 July 2007

huh? a losing day?

Got back from my weekend in Paris celebrating my 21st earlier today. It was a pretty fun weekend, which included me playing a 100euro freezeout at the Aviation Club de France on the Champs Elysses. I was doing well in this, chipping up slowly even without any hands. The tournament had half hour blind levels, and i was chipping up nicely, managing to cruise to the last 3 tables (9 to a table, 77 started).

However, after the blinds being nice and slow (we started with 3k, it went 25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 150/300) It then did a big jump to 200/400 with a 25 ante. I would like to see them add another level in here, like a 200/400 without antes first. Moving from paying 450 per round to paying 825 hurt me, and after carefully building a stack, i lost 1/3 being blinded while card dead in the 200/400-25. Then, at 300/600-25, I lost half my stack with 88 vs a short stacks TT, then shoved AJ and lost to A4. Sigh.

Since getting home, i have played 1000 hands and finished down for the day! :( I'm pretty tired after travelling a lot today, and after the weekend, so i won't bother with graphs/pokertracker/hands.

Today:
-$8.50 $50PLO Cash Game
+$35.50 Donk n Gos
-$191.35 Cash Games
Bankroll: $1377.19

I made a couple of pretty lose calls of 3-bets preflop. I lost a chunk when I built up a pot against an obvious flush draw, with the plan to bluff him off the river when the flush card hit on the river :( Also managed to lose a buy in with AT on a 987 flop, when i incorrectly deduced that i had fold equity (i had none). And leaked some money when I checked a river in order to induce a bluff, resulting in me paying off a better hand 's big bet, when a block bet on my part would've been much better.

Not too concerned though, a 2 buy-in downswing is so standard, but i would've hoped it would've been neutralised after 1k hands...lol variance?

Guess it just means i run like everyone else in the world :)

Moving up.

Today, due to waking up late, and packing/preparations for Paris tomorrow, I only played 1.7k hands, mostly at $100NL. I decided i'd take a shot, with a short bankroll, and move down if it went badly. Naturally i immediately dropped 3 buy-ins. I think these were largely unavoidable, but it was still annoying (AJ vs KQ on an AJT flop, and 22 vs T8 on a 92x flop...wtf?!). Anyway, i persevered, and actually finished the day quite well up.

I need to be tighter when calling rereraises on the river, as this has probably cost me close to a buy in today. An example was where someone bet $10 on the river, I had KT on a 99QJx board and minraised to $20. He then made it $20, i knew i was beat but couldn't quite find the fold button. Of course i was shown QQ for a boat. And these small mistakes quickly add up...

Anyway, Poker tracker screenshot: Graph:
Today:
Cash Games: +$467.85
Donk n Gos: -$2
Bankroll: $1541.54

Next week will be a lot more $100NL! I'm happy to grind away at this limit until i have $3-$4k+ now. I was amazed to see that in this short time i've already paid $366 in rake. You don't necessarily notice it at the time, but it sure does add up!

Another good day

Today was indeed another good day. I managed to put in another 2k hands, nearly entirely at $50NL. Hopefully in a day or two i'll be able to move up to $100NL. Running well above expectation still, as you can see from this poker tracker screenshot:And here is my graph for the summer so far:
I tried a $10rebuy turbo tournament satellite for EPT Barcelona, but made a really spewy play with about 32 left (17 seats) and essentially got myself knocked out. I was in for $51 in that.

Here's some fun hands from today:

These are hard to get away from but i should've folded the river shove.

Good time to flop a set

I played this badly, and gave myself a tough river call

A lame reraise preflop cost him here

You called me with King high?!

Lucky turn for me

Tomorrow will be my last day online before going to Paris to celebrate my 21st :) Looking forward to hitting the Aviation Club hard and taking down one (or two!) of their poker tournaments!

Also, next week i should be playing all $100NL unless tomorrow goes badly.

Today:
Cash Games: +$416.55
Shovefests: +$1.95
EPT Satellites: -$51
Heads up SnGs: -$10.50
Bankroll: $1075.69

I (l) $50NL

I had a very successful day online. Managed to play pretty much all $50NL after playing pretty much all $25NL yesterday. I played 2k hands, and played reasonably throughout. Made a couple of BAD river calls, and a couple of horrible bluffs though. Here's a bad river call that i should've got away from:

Shoulda folded...

The whole reason i block bet the river was so i could fold to a shove, and to get value from badly played hands like KK, JJ, AJ. I can't see him ever shoving with a hand that i beat, so although tough, i think this is an easy fold. When he shoves, i think his range is precisely AA, QQ, AQ, or perhaps AK for a chop.

On the other hand, this is the hand i won most monies on today. I didn't play it great, but i didn't need to when they clearly wanted to give me their money:

Yum Yum.

Here's my updated pokertracker stats for the summer after two days:
And my summer graph:

All in all i made $485.15 playing cash games today.

I also played two donkaments, and got nowhere in those. Played a $20+$2 NL tourny, where some guy seemed to raise everyone of my flop bets, so I made a move on him, and lo and behold, he had indeed been hitting EVERY flop. Also played a $15+$1.50 PL Omaha tourny, where I flopped top set (the nuts) and someone made a flush against me early.

Today:
Cash Games: +$485.15
Donkaments: -$38.50
Bankroll: $718.69

If i can put together a couple more days like today, then I should be playing $100NL soon. Although i won't pretend for a second that i think the 27.85 ptbb/100 i'm currently running at in the $50NL games is sustainable...Downswing soon? :S

Day 1

In the absence of a job this summer i have decided to give poker a go. I found a couple of hundred dollars lurking around in pokerstars, so thought i'd see what i can turn that into. That means a lot of SSNL grinding. Urgh. Today went ok, i put in 1.3k hands and i played reasonably apart from one brain-dead bluff attempt that cost me half a buy in. Here's a pokertracker screenshot for today:

Pretty demoralising to play that many hands and to win so little. I'll give it a couple more days, but i might have to put some more monies in so i can at least grind $100NL. We'll see. Furthermore, i want to play a lot more than 1.3k hands a day. Ideally i'll be aiming to play at least 2k, but this might not be sustainable. Here's the graph for today:Today: +$89.50
Bankroll: $272.04

Once i get past $300 i'll play a lot more $50NL, leaving myself 10 buy-ins for $25NL (10 buy ins at $25NL = nearly impossible to busto!)

Plan for tomorrow is to not do any more stupid bluffs, and to put in at least 2k hands!
